Head Varsity Coach
The hardnosed, competitive, and enthusiastic skipper of the Indians, TOM CROWTHER, enters his sixth season as the head coach after six seasons as an assistant coach and head lower-level coach. He played at Burroughs from 1993-1996. He and the Indians are coming off a 15-14 season in which they went 11-3 in their Pacific League debut. It was the most wins for the program since 1998. and first playoff season since 2000. Overall his record as the varsity coach is 60-70-2, and 1-1 in the post-season. The Indians were 20-38-2 in the Foothill League during his span as coach and 25-19 in non-league games. During the 2006 season they were 6-9 in their final season in the Foothill League and they missed the playoffs by one game. In four seasons as lower-level coach his teams were 56-21-1, winning tournaments and a league title. He also spent two seasons as the top assistant under the program's all-time winningest coach, Jose Valle. During that time Burroughs went 27-25-1. Valle will be the coach's best man when he marries his beautiful fiance Jill Vander Borght this June. Coach Crowther is a teacher at Burroughs, having spent eight seasons in the school's Special Education Department. He also has advised the school newspaper, the Smoke Signal, the National Honor Society, the Journalism Department, and been very involved on campus for years. He works for Farmers' Insurance, in the office of his father, Bob, and his wife, Vangie. His mother lives in the Tampa area. He has one sister, Noelle, and three step-siblings. Recently Coach Crowther and his fiance purchased a home in Toluca Woods, a small neighborhood that borders Toluca Lake and the Burbank Media District.
